  • Laurel O'Neal Thornton, MA, LPC, NCC, EMDR-T, ALPS

I consider myself a neuro-psychotherapist. I enjoy working with people who want to feel differently and are ready for the things that they know are true to feel true. I enjoy working with any age individual. I help facilitate change for those who would like to have the stresses or large events of the past not have so much power and control over them so that they can focus on the present and are able to feel more hopeful about the future. I specialize in EMDR and helping people reprocess stressful events from the past and present, as well as, fears about the future. I also use techniques from REBT, TA, and Reality Therapy/Choice theory. I believe that the brain is amazingly resilient and therefore work to set a safe environment for growth and healing. I take a holistic approach to healing and work with the whole person not just a set of symptoms.

  • Linda M. Parkhill, MA, LPC, NCGC

My approach in counseling is somewhat holistic and eclectic. I believe a supportive counseling environment works to help a client achieve awareness, thus leading to healing and personal growth. My role is to help clients explore their emotional needs and provide feedback. Hopefully, the value will be realized in both behavioral and emotional changes. Under all circumstances, my mission is to treat the client with the utmost regard and honor the human condition as it is. Counseling hours are available most days at your convenience. Often clients are able to schedule an appointment with 24 hours of calling my office. My professional concentration has been in the areas of: domestic violence, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, PTSD, OCD, "transitional issues" and problem gambling. I'm a Nationally Certified Problem Gambling Counselor and have enjoyed working with that population for many years. Studies have shown that those who are engaged in a therapeutic environment will feel better about their situation. I try to encourage all my clients to search their feelings and discover their own path to happiness. My job is to act as a catalyst for change and I do so with an open mind.

  • Mary Anne Alderfer, LPC, EDS, LPC, LMFT

I bring 30 years of counseling experience to our time together. My orientation can best be described as eclectic, drawing from rogerian, cognitive behavioral, gestalt, and family systems theory and techniques. Our first session provides the opportunity to decide together whether I am best able to help you accomplish your goals. If you are unsure of who/what would best suit your needs, I will be glad to offer my help in finding the resources you may need. I work primarily with adults individually, with the exception of premarital counseling. Specialties include: premarital counseling, life transitions (ie. separation, job change, empty nest, retirement) grief, caregiving and end if life issues. Client feedback: 'You were attentive, efficient, patient, insightful, impartial; you provided a safe, comfortable space in which to work, provided solid boundaries and good guidance but in an unobtrusive way.' 'You conveyed warmth and humor when appropriate, which indicated that your humanity was intact and you were showing up as a whole person'

Using a strengths-based approach, I provide psychotherapy with respect and compassion, helping adults, adolescents, and couples find resolution to a wide range of personal concerns and psychological issues. I believe in the innate capabilities we each possess for healing ourselves. I also believe that we all need help from time to time, that life can present challenges that feel overwhelming. Together with each client, I work to develop strengths and achieve life goals, to address both current life challenges as well as long-standing issues.
